Blogging...

Blogging - not something I've ever really caught the knack of.  However, I guess it's nice in our internet, high-tech world to post some thoughts and see if it attracts anyones attention.

I have been having a great summer - I work with 2 very hard working guys who are passionate about what they do.  I see kids making eternal decisions almost daily.  I see staff serving the Lord and catching what ministry is all about.  I guess it's just another day in the life of a WOL Camp Director, but I desperately want to maintain an eternal purpose in all I do.  Eternity is at stake, and I want my endeavors to be laser-focused on it.  I guess that should be the case the other 42 weeks of my life that I'm not in summer ministry.

December Reveals Who You Are...

The Christmas season tends to do that; it peels back at least a layer or two to reveal what you value the most. Maybe it's family, or possessions, or tradition, or your relationship with Christ. It's a great month for introspection; ask yourself today and in the coming days: what do I find myself thinking about the most? What do I find myself not thinking about at all? If you're a follower of Christ, then at least some of your time and life should be spent reflecting on who Christ is to you, and how you're using your life to make an impact in this world for Him. If you're not a follower of Christ, a good question to ask would be "What am I doing with my life? Am I living to just make an impact in the short amount of time I'm on earth, or, am I focusing on how my life can be used for something far greater?"

It's probably worth reflecting on one of my favourite quotes this time of year: "The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians, who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable."

Would an unbelieving world find you unbelievable this month? Or, would they see by your life AND your words that you serve a greater purpose? If all people can see is your drive in life for the things that won't matter in 1,000 years, are you really living?

the annual tradition continues...

Rachel, David, Dawson, Lucas, Ryan and I made the annual trek to our summer camp home to begin another summer of ministry.  Hard to believe it's that time of year again...seems like we were just here.  Our staff is coming in large numbers today, and tomorrow we start counsellor training.

Our email and phone numbers don't change in the summer, so please stay in touch.  We have a lot to do over the coming days/weeks, so please don't be offended if you don't get an IMMEDIATE reply :).

BEING the will of God...

About 10 years ago, this quote rocked my world.  Read it slowly:

"Whatsoever ye shall ask in My name, that will I do." The disciple who abides in Jesus
is the will of God, and his apparently free choices are God's fore-ordained decrees. Mysterious? Logically contradictory and absurd? Yes, but a glorious truth to a saint. - Oswald Chambers (June 7, 'Utmost for His Highest')

Life lived apart from the path provided in God's Word is filled with confusion and doubt.  There is no stability on a path that has no light.  How foolish would it be to have an intoxicated person guide you around the top of a skyscraper?  Yet, when we listen to counsel that has no interest in God's way of living life, that's exactly what we do.  Just some thoughts as I have been thinking about Proverbs 4:10-19...

10 Hear, my son, and accept my sayings
And the years of your life will be many.
11 I have directed you in the way of wisdom;
I have led you in upright paths.
12 When you walk, your steps will not be impeded;
And if you run, you will not stumble.
13 Take hold of instruction; do not let go.
Guard her, for she is your life.
14 Do not enter the path of the wicked
And do not proceed in the way of evil men.
15 Avoid it, do not pass by it;
Turn away from it and pass on.
16 For they cannot sleep unless they do evil;
And they are robbed of sleep unless they make someone stumble.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness
And drink the wine of violence.
18 But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,
That shines brighter and brighter until the full day.
19 The way of the wicked is like darkness;
They do not know over what they stumble.
